Buying Guide: Choosing the Best RV Bumper Generator Mount
Selecting the right RV bumper generator mount or cargo bracket depends on multiple factors to ensure safety, durability, and compatibility.
Compatibility and Fit
- Bumper Size: Confirm your RV bumper size, typically 4″ square, to select mounts designed for that dimension.
- Cargo Dimensions: Consider the size of your generator, tote tank, or cargo box and if the bracket can accommodate those dimensions firmly.
Material and Durability
- Construction Material: Steel brackets are common for strength; powder coating enhances rust resistance.
- Weight Capacity: Check the maximum load capacity to ensure it meets or exceeds your gear weight.
Installation Method
- Clamp-On vs. Weld/Drill: Clamp-style mounts allow easier installation without permanent modification; welding option offers a more permanent fixture but requires tools.
- Instructions and Tools: Consider if instructions are included and what tools you’ll need for setup.
Additional Features
- Safety Straps: Straps can secure cargo, minimizing movement during travel.
- Foldability: Some racks fold up when not in use, saving space.
- Design Enhancements: Rust-resistant powders and heavy-duty steel improve longevity and performance.
Use Scenario
- Generator Mounting: Look for stable mounts with enough strength and vibration control.
- Waste Tank Storage: Tote tank holders often include straps; verify tank compatibility.
- General Cargo: Brackets with universal fit and high weight capacity provide versatile solutions.
