Buying Guide for Dual Solar and Gas Generators
When selecting the best dual fuel generator for your needs, consider the following factors:
- Power Output: Match the generator’s running and peak wattage with your essential appliances and devices to ensure sufficient power without overloading.
- Fuel Compatibility: Dual fuel units typically support gasoline and propane, while tri-fuel models add natural gas for more fueling options. Choose based on fuel availability and storage convenience.
- Runtime and Fuel Tank Size: Longer runtime means fewer refills during emergencies. Larger tanks enable extended use but increase weight and size.
- Starting Mechanism: Electric or remote start offers ease of use over manual recoil start—important during power outages or for heavy-duty units.
- Portability and Weight: Consider the size and portability if you intend to move the generator frequently or take it on trips. Lighter inverter generators excel here but often trade-off power.
- Noise Levels: For home and recreational use, quieter generators with noise-reducing technology provide improved comfort and compliance with noise regulations.
- Safety Features: Look for models with CO sensors, automatic shutdowns, and GFCI outlets to protect users and devices from hazards.
- Transfer Switch Readiness: Essential for whole-home backup systems because it allows easy connection to your home’s electrical panel for seamless power supply during outages.
- Additional Outlets and USB Ports: More outlet types increase versatility, enabling you to power multiple varied devices or RVs simultaneously.
- Brand Reliability and Warranty: Established brands with good customer support and warranty coverage provide peace of mind for long-term use.
